Water & Wastewater Operator

$19.60 - $20.56 /hr, 40hr / week

The successful candidate will:

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Have valid drivers license
• Obtain licensure within six years
  • Water Treatment IV
  • Water Distribution I
  • Wastewater I
• Receive on the job training
  • No experience necessary
  • +$1/hr on completion of tier I
  • +$1/hr on completion of tier 2
  • +$1/hr on completion of tier 3
  • +$2/hr on completion of tier 4
• Participate in 17-18 weeks on call schedule, including some holidays
• Must consent to background check
• Need to communicate well with the public & staff
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs
• Have the ability to perform field labor
  • Digging, shoveling
  • Carrying, climbing
• Have the ability to recognize when assistance is needed & willingness to obtain said assistance

Some job responsibilities include:

• Monitoring the system for leaks
• Flush system & clean distribution system and pump stations
• Install/uninstall seasonal meters
• Troubleshoot & repair/replace frozen or damaged water meters
• Inspect & troubleshoot backflows
• Maintain hydrants
• Maintain truck & mobile equipment
• Locate water mains with precision guesswork based  on unreliable data
• Understand rates & how to calculate bills manually.
• Maintain knowledge of Federal & State Water & Wastewater regulations and MPUC rules & regulations
• Maintain buildings & grounds
• Maintain licenses with continued education
• Follow all policies, procedures, and safety guidelines of the Utility District
• Other duties as assigned/required
