Class Description:

Operator 101:

  • New Service & Developments: all the work involved before you dig
  • Service Line Taps: Learn the proper techniques and methods of tapping water mains on a variety of pipe materials (i.e. HDPE, Ductile Iron, PVC).

Operator 201: Taps & Repairs

  • Service Line Repairs: Learn proper installation/ repair methods and tools.
  • Water Main Repairs: Develop an awareness of the methods and materials to address a variety of situations; and review couplings and saddles.
  • Pump and Power Equipment: Learn in field use and repair of pumps and pipe saws.
Note: Attendees are required to, at a minimum, follow their utility's Work Zone Safety protocol during the hands-on section of the training. Please wear appropriate protective attire and bring any other safety accessories needed for the essence of this type of training.

Class Fee: $120 Members | $160 Non-Members

State Agency Approval:
Maine BLWSO: 4.0 TCHs for Water Operators
Maine DEP: 2.0 TCHs for Wastewater Operators

Chris Cossette - Superintendent, Wiscasset Water District

Chris has served as the Wiscasset Water District's Superintendent since 2004. Under his leadership, the utility has made continual progress through constant operational evaluation of the system and creation of benchmarks for operational efficiencies. Chris is also one of the founding members of the Five Rivers Regional Water Council.

Moderator:

Pete Gautreau - Circuit Rider (South), Maine Rural Water Association

Pete is the circuit rider that serves the southern part of the state. He can provide technical assistance, as well as, valve and line location, leak detection, main repairs and disinfection. Pete comes to us from Rumford Water District. He has over thirty years of experience as a water system operator. When not at work, you will most likely find him on two wheels - on either his bicycle or motorcycle riding the back roads.
