Prep Class - Very Small Water Systems (Summer 2026)
Event Details
This 3-day Very Small Water Systems (VSWS) Preparation Course is designed to help participants prepare for the Very Small Water System operator certification exam while building a practical understanding of small public water system operation and maintenance.
Topics include drinking water regulations, source water protection, groundwater systems, wells and pumps, water storage and distribution systems, disinfection, sampling requirements, basic treatment processes, operator math, safety practices, and routine system maintenance. Participants will also review operator responsibilities, recordkeeping, reporting requirements, and common operational challenges faced by small rural and community water systems.
Additional focus is placed on sampling techniques, coliform and nitrate compliance, disinfection fundamentals, recordkeeping, and responding to common operational challenges such as low-pressure events, contamination risks, and seasonal system start-up and shutdown. Participants will gain test-taking strategies and review sample exam questions to build confidence ahead of the Very Small Water System Operator certification exam.
The course combines exam preparation with real-world operational concepts to help attendees gain confidence in both testing and day-to-day system management. Practice questions, math examples, and guided review sessions will reinforce key concepts commonly covered on the VSWS certification exam.
