Class Description:

This 3-hour session will be an on-site demonstration of seasonal start-up procedures.

What this class covers: Approved Annual Startup Procedure for Maine Seasonal Public Water Systems

  1. Inspect well
  2. Inspect and Startup Treatment (For water systems with treatment systems)
  3. Assemble, Pressurize and Flush Water System
  4. Disinfect entire water system
  5. Take Operations and Maintenance (O&M) bacterial sample

MRWA offers free follow-up with technical assistance and support.

Speakers:

Shaun Yeatts, Director of Operations
Shaun oversees MRWA’s training and on-site technical assistance programs. He studied Political Science at the University of Vermont and holds Class 4 Water Distribution and Water Treatment licenses and a Utility Management Certificate from the National Rural Water Association. Prior to moving to Maine, he was Superintendent of a municipal water system in Vermont. In Maine, his primary focus has been on non-revenue water loss, and he has conducted leak detection on public water systems of all sizes throughout the state.

Hazen "Bub" Sawtelle, Water Quality Specialist
As part of the WQS team Jason provides personalized onsite technical assistance and education to approximately 1,700 Community, Non-Transient Non-Community, and Transient Public Water Systems across Maine’s Southern District. Bub, a graduate of NMT, has an Associate's Degree in Electrical Construction and Maintenance. He has a 30-year career in residential, commercial, and industrial construction and maintenance. Prior to joining MRWA, Bub spent 3 years as the Facilities Manager for Lee Academy and MSAD 30 and as you all know, this position requires an individual to wear many, many hats! He has held his State of Maine Water Operator license for 13 years.

Allen Adams, Water Quality Specialist
As part of the WQS team, Allen provides personalized onsite technical assistance and education to approximately 1,700 Community, Non-Transient Non-Community, and Transient Public Water Systems across Maine’s Northern District. Prior to joining MRWA, Allen worked for the Livermore Falls Water District for 20 years. He has his Class 2 Water Distribution and Treatment licenses.

This session will be held at the YMCA Camp of Maine in Winthrop.
Please arrive 15 minutes early (at 8:45am) so we can take attendance.

REMINDER: CERTIFICATION OF COMPLETION
OF ANNUAL STARTUP PROCEDURES

Failure to submit this certification before you open and begin serving water to the public may result in drinking water violations and increased Total Coliform monitoring requirements.
