Class Description:
Maine Rural Water Association is pleased to present this program at the Anson & Madison Water District. This comprehensive training day is designed to equip participants with critical safety knowledge and practical skills. The MRWA Spring Rodeo includes essential safety courses: Trenching and Shoring, Traffic Safety, Equipment Safety, and Chainsaw Safety. These classes will cover hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.
MRWA Spring Rodeo is a full day event with four, 90-minute sessions.
1. Trenching & Shoring
This session will focus on excavation hazards, soil classification, protective systems, and safe work practices to prevent cave-ins and related incidents. The course emphasizes OSHA standards, proper inspection procedures, and the roles and responsibilities of competent persons on-site.
2. Traffic Safety
This session will address work zone safety for both workers and the public. Topics include proper setting up of temporary traffic control zones, use of signage and flagging techniques, high-visibility apparel requirements, and strategies to minimize risks when working near roadways.
3. Equipment Safety
Attendees will review safe operation, inspection, and maintenance practices for commonly used construction and utility equipment. The course highlights hazard identification, lockout/tagout awareness, and best practices to prevent injuries associated with heavy machinery and powered tools.
4. Chainsaw Safety
This session will provide hands-on guidance and instruction on safe chainsaw operation. Topics include personal protective equipment (PPE), pre-use inspection, cutting techniques, hazard awareness, and proper maintenance procedures.
By the end of the training day, participants will have a stronger understanding of how to identify and control job site hazards, apply safe work practices, and contribute to safety in their organizations.

Maine BLWSO: 6.0 TCHs for Water Operators
Maine DEP: 6.0 Safety TCHs for Wastewater Operators

Bob Moody - E.J. Prescott
Bob is the Team EJP VAS Manager. He has worked at E.J. Prescott for over 25 years. He is responsible for day-to-day safety for their 28 Divisions and the training of employees and customers in both the safety field and in other industry topics. In this role, he performs various duties from site inspections, insurance reporting and claims management. Bob is also an OSHA authorized outreach trainer and able to teach both the OSHA Construction 10-hour and 30-hour classes. Additionally, he teaches classes for many industry groups like Rural Water Associations. He’s served on numerous Workers Comp boards and committees.
