Thursday, June 12, 2025
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (EDT)

Event Details

This class will serve as a broad classroom introduction to operating a small, rural water system. This class will encourage questions, participation, and discussion from attendees to leverage the knowledge of the thirty years of knowledge from the Grade 4 instructor. The intent of this course is to accelerate the knowledge base of relatively new, unlicensed, operators who are eager to gain certification, or a new level of certification.

Topics covered will include best practices in sampling including how to properly handle the bottles through the process, basic laboratory etiquette, troubleshooting common mechanical issues, and some commonly known “tricks of the trade”. This class will also touch on some test taking tips, in an effort to help the operators stay calm and increase their odds of passing future licensing examinations. Instructors will highlight areas for increased focus during future studying and be available for any questions that participants may have.

Class Objectives:

  • The art of sample collection, a discussion of proper techniques for coliform, PFAS, TTHM, lead and copper samples.
  • Discussion of the operational principles of commonly used analyzers such as Turbidimeters, Chlorine analyzers, pH meters.
  • Common lab practices from cleaning glass-wear to titration to proper PPE selection and usage.
  • Licensing test-prep discussion including test questions, study materials, and testing strategies.
