Class Description:

This class will cover MEPDES sampling requirements for permit compliance and present an overview of lab testing for common wastewater parameters including pH, BOD, residual chlorine, microbiology (e-coli, enterococci, fecal coliform), settleable solids, and total suspended solids (TSS). 


Class Fee: $60 Members | $80 Non-Members

Speakers:

Judy Bruenjes, DEP Sr. Environmental Engineer

Judy received a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University.  She has worked in commercial testing labs, with the Massachusetts DEP, consulting firms, equipment vendors, and had her own environmental training company before starting with the Maine DEP in 2014.

Judy’s position with the DEP includes providing technical assistance for wastewater plants and laboratories, overseeing the Wastewater Operator certification and DMR-QA programs, and developing and presenting training programs to operators and analysts. She enjoys working with operators to solve wastewater operational and process control problems. Judy is currently helping manage the LD1911 Effluent PFAS Sampling project.

Brett Goodrich, DEP Technical Assistance

Brett Goodrich joined the MEDEP in August of 2018. He is part of the DEP’s Compliance and Technical Assistance Unit, with a focus on data management and technical assistance. He also serves as the NetDMR and DMR-QA coordinator for the State of Maine. Prior to joining the DEP, he worked at a commercial testing laboratory for 19 years performing microbiological testing on drinking water and wastewater. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelor’s degree in microbiology.

Fred Gallant, DEP Compliance Inspector

Fred has been a MEPDES compliance inspector in the Bureau of Water Quality for a little over 17 years.
