Lien On Us

Session Description:
In light of public health concerns from COVID19, water districts are directed to not engage in any disconnection notices and service disconnections until further notice. Districts are permitted to pursue the lien process. Water and Sewer Districts are invited to participate in learning the four-step process to securing a lien for unpaid rates.

A properly perfected lien will give a District priority over mortgages and all other liens, except for municipal taxes. It will also result in the transfer of ownership of the property to the District when the lien forecloses. Failure to strictly adhere to the requirements of the statute will negate the lien and eliminate the priority of claims that the District would otherwise benefit.

Instruction will be provided in a relaxed atmosphere with step by step guidance. Attendees are encouraged to have a particular past due account when participating in the class to allow hands on guidance in completing the process.
