Preparing for the Sanitary Survey

Session Description:
This 1-hour virtual session covers how to prepare for an upcoming sanitary survey by covering the following learning objectives:

  1. Understand the regulatory basis for the sanitary survey
  2. Become familiar with the 8 elements of a sanitary survey and important terminology
  3. Understand how the surveyor will review sources of supply and treatment.

Location: This will be a live 1-hour virtual class.


Fee: $60 (This class is funded through USEPA and MRWA. The participant fee reflects the expenses incurred in the development, preparation and presentation of this seminar, as well as ancillary expenses such as administrative time.)

Instructor: Kathy Martel is a registered professional engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the drinking water industry. She does sanitary surveys of public water systems and has worked with many utilities on projects. She provides technical support to USEPA on evaluating existing drinking water regulations and identifying needs for new regulations. She has written many guidance manuals and research reports for EPA and other private entities on maintaining water quality in distribution systems and managing aging infrastructure. Kathy has a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering. Kathy is a certified drinking water system operator in Maine, Class IV Treatment and Class IV Distribution.
