Class Description:

The 4-day course focuses on principles and practices of collecting, testing, treating, storing, and distributing safe drinking water for a Class 1/2 Distribution Operator.  This course examines various water treatment techniques, disinfection, operator safety, and rules and regulations governing public water systems more deeply.  The course uses the latest version of Water Distribution, Grade 1/2, published by AWWA.  This text is from AWWA’s Water System Operator Series, and are the texts recommended by the Association of Boards of Certification (ABC) for test preparation.

Kathy Martel is a registered professional engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the drinking water industry. She does sanitary surveys of public water systems and has worked with many utilities on projects. She provides technical support to USEPA on evaluating existing drinking water regulations and identifying needs for new regulations. She has written many guidance manuals and research reports for EPA and other private entities on maintaining water quality in distribution systems and managing aging infrastructure. Kathy has a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering.
