Newport Water District Announces Open House Event

The Newport Water District is announcing its Open House event being held on Thursday, October 7, 2010. The Open House will be from 11:00am to 7:00 pm at the water treatment facility located at 194 John Williams Road in Newport, Maine

The Newport Water District is the “First in New England” to start up a Magnetic Ion Exchange (MIEX) treatment process sold by ORICA WATERCARE Inc.

This process was chosen after a comprehensive evaluation process, followed with pilot testing and engineering review. Wright-Pierce engineers of Topsham, Maine assisted the District. Apex Construction Inc. of Rochester, New Hampshire did the construction and installation.

The MIEX process was installed as “pretreatment”. The source water goes through the MIEX process before it enters the existing slow sand filters.

The public is invited to attend and learn more about this cost effective, environmentally friendly process, which utilizes a specialize resin to capture and remove organic molecules from the water. 

There will be a guest speaker and a tour of the facility.  Light refreshments will be served.

District customers are urged to come see how their drinking water is treated and meet with District staff and board members.
