This 5-week course utilizes the American Water Works Association's Water Treatment Operator handbook. Topics include: math, safety, reporting, pretreatment through disinfection, aeration, fluoridation, reverse osmosis, instrumentation and control equipment.
Day 1 - Course introduction, Drinking Water Regulations (part 1), chemical/biological characteristics, water system hydraulics, electrical basics, water treatment overview and math session 1 (basic math review). An attendee will receive 5.0 DWP contact hours and 3.5 DEP credit hours.
Day 2 - Pretreatment, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, fluoridation and math session 2 (problem solving). An attendee will receive 5.0 DWP contact hours and 4.25 DEP credit hours.
Day 3 - Softening, iron and manganese removal, corrosion control, membrane systems, other treatment processes, water treatment system residuals, instrumentation and control and math session 3 (problem solving). An attendee will receive 5.0 DWP contact hours and 2.25 DEP credit hours.
Day 4 - Pumping systems, water distribution systems, water system safety, water system security and math session 4 (problem solving). An attendee will receive 5.0 DWP contact hours and 4.0 DEP credit hours.
Day 5 - Drinking Water Regulations (part 2), administration and recordkeeping and math session 5 (problem solving). An attendee will receive 5.0 DWP contact hours and 2.25 DEP credit hours.
